The Hornady RAPiD® Safe is a great product but it’s weakness is it’s tubular lock. It is easy to impression the tubular lock that comes with the safe with easy to find tools. I was inspired by BosnianBill’s YouTube video #1546 where he mentions replacing the tubular lock with an Abloy CL100N.

Tools Needed

  1. Adjustable Wrench
  2. Straight Screwdriver
  3. File
  4. Abloy CL100N
  5. Olympus — 1/4" Trim Spacer Collar for DCN Cam Locks

Steps

  1. Take Pictures! It’s important to take pictures of how the tubular lock is installed for reference before you start disassembly.
  2. Disassemble the tubular lock from the safe. Use the straight screwdriver to straighten the spur washer holding the small nut to the tailpiece of the tubular lock.
  3. Machine the cam from the tubular lock so that it fits on the tail of the CL100N. I used a file to enlarge and square off the hole.
  4. Assemble the CL100N into the safe. Since the CL100N is longer than the original tubular lock I needed to place the Olympus — 1/4" Trim Spacer Collar between the face of the CL100N and the safe to get the spacing correct inside the safe. Use the straight screwdriver to lock the spur washer around the small nut on the tailpiece.
